'HELPING HANDS' LYRICS

... So I shall continue to share lyrics with you as they emerge...
This is a recent inspiration... a song called 'Helping Hands' which now has verse 2 and out~ro!
You can hear the first part of it in the video section here on the blog............ lots of dot, dot, dots................................

Sometimes I get a feeling of what the song is going to be about before it happens, and think about what I want to say, but other times, I have no idea, and there's been no planning involved....
I let it emerge when it wants to emerge.... (otherwise I can get creative constipation and that's not so nice...) ... take a step back, and then begin to notice a pattern or a theme.... I like it when this happens!  'Helping Hands' was a no planner...

PS: 'creative constipation'... OH, the possibilities for blog pics......HA!  but alas, there were many lovely photos of hands....

 Helping Hands

I pray it won't be long
Until you see the helping hands
I hope you find that you can't do this all alone
Cos we can't always be that strong

And it's not so bad
You don't have to be ashamed, cos we
All have our troubles and cares, you gotta
Give it up, and stop tryin' to save your face, won't you
Open up and see the grace....

When you fall on your knees
Don't know what to believe
Let me come to you and I'll keep you warm
I'll be here in your heart
You can come as you are
And together we can ride through the storm
When you fall

I hope that you will say
"I am not alone...
The people and the places that I see
Are given here for me"

I hope you find the strength
And the will to carry on, you know I
Just won't give up on you... you see there's
So much life, and it's screaming out your name... you know that
Things don't have to be the same....

When you fall on your knees
Don't know what to believe
Let me come to you and I'll keep you warm
I'll be here in your heart
You can come as you are
And together we can ride through the storm
When you fall

When you fall ~ I'll come around
When you fall ~ I'll come around
When you fall down I will come around and we'll do what it takes
Don't ever think you're alone ~ look in the mirror, see my face

GROUP SINGING LESSONS!

Yesterday I had a meeting with Alley Clarke from the "Venue" (music bar in Lymm) with included cafe con leche...

We talked about starting some group singing lessons on a Saturday morning located at the bar. The "Venue" has a good atmosphere.. comfortable sofas, and also a piano which will come in handy ;~)

My thoughts are that there may be quite a few persons out there who would love to have the courage and/or the finance to get some lessons, and the opening out of some group sessions for both kids and adults may help to overcome some of the barriers ~ the price can be dropped, and you won't need to worry about the focus being solely on you with it being a group situation. The emphasis here will be taking a song.. learning about how we can approach it in a new way to make it easier whilst having FUN with it!

Please spread the word if you have contacts that may be interested...
Stay tuned for starting date, prices & times, but if you think you might be interested in signing up for this you can do one of a few things:

1. Leave me a comment here on the blog
2. Twitter me (username 'HelenMonks')
3. Facebook me
4. Email to studio@helenmonks.co.uk

WALK WITH DIAMONDS - LYRICS

So good morning to you!

"I woke!!"

My hairdresser said this to me last week... he said, "If I don't think of anything else in the morning, the one thing I can say with all my heart and be thankful for is that I woke up this morning." That was just a little aside.. I really didn't intend to say that at all.. my fingers just have a mind of their own sometimes...

What I want to share with you are the lyrics to my most recent song, which have been playing over and over in my mind the past few days.. I'll attach the video of the song also just for any who haven't heard the song too...

Walk with Diamonds

Ain't you been acting strange
Lost in the yesterday's ~ things of old
Under the aubern skies
Well there's a jewel that shines ~ so bright
And as your heart beats in time with mine
I know that you'll hear my call ~ here's my call
And I can see what you're trying to find
But something here to realise ~ I am here

I know it's hard to walk with diamonds, and wear that golden crown
Just leave your tired clothes on the floor
Look at you don't you look finer than you've been before
You can dress up any time you want
I see you in the heart

So open up your heart
And leave your cares behind ~ walk with me
I'll show you what you're worth
An endless ocean pearl ~ be free
And as we run through the storm in the sea
The waves disappear and leave ~ I'm here
My treasure's waiting on the side
My clothes will be here every time ~ you decide

I know it's hard to walk with diamonds and wear that golden crown
Just leave your tired clothes on the floor
Look at you don't you look finer than you've been before
You can dress up any time you want
I see you in the heart

PS just realised I don't need to attach a vid.. you can watch it here on the vid section on my blog! ... (hmm, and i thought i woke this morn.. ;~D )

A blog mostly about singing lessons : - )

Well, Hello.

I realise my blog here has been really quiet recently.... BUT..  that's because of all the creative inspiration of songwriting that's been going on!  heehee.  FUN.  And a valid excuse.  So, you can listen to my new ideas right here on the blog... look over there to your left... or on the 'MyBand' tab on my Facebook profile page, or at www.youtube.com/helenmonksvoice  Let me know what you think.  ;~D

I've started back with my singing teaching again now, and it's really nice to catch up with my students and hear all about their summer hols.  So now we're working towards a showcase @ the 'Venue' which is a local music bar in the village of Lymm, Warrington.  It's a great night.  The wonderful owners of the bar let us take over for the evening, and it gives students of all ages and ability the opportunity to dip their feet in the water of musical performance in an informal, friendly kind of atmosphere.  Students bring along their friends and families, and watch the talent unfold.  They can perform using a backing track, or some students come with a guitar or accompanist to hand.  For some, the Venue has been their first experience of performing in front of others ~ an exciting time.   If you'd like to come along or find out more about this, you can message me on Facebook or Twitter.

Ok, so seeing as I'm talking about my singing teaching, I'll also mention that I have some NEW CHEAPER PRICES!   You see I'm in the process of re-branding my business... rethinking websites.. business name etc. and the first thing to change is going to be the price!

As a little aside, for those who don't know about my teaching, I specialise in vocal technique.  I'm certified at level 2 to teach a great technique called Speech Level Singing, so rather then teaching you 'what' to sing, I help you with 'how' to sing... how to get through the difficult areas in your vocal range, and join the bottom through to the top, so you can sing with one consistent voice in the same free comfortable manner as speaking.  This makes life so much easier, and it means that you can then start to focus on what really matters when you perform... the emotion.. words.. connecting with your audience etc. rather than worrying whether you're gonna make that 'top G' that's coming up in bar 24!

Getting back to the change of price part... I've recognised that the students who come for a weekly 30min session are making big strides in their vocal journey, and we've been making some exciting progress.  I'd like many more to be able to benefit from the results of a weekly session, and so I'm bringing my prices down to make this possible.  The new prices are now active and are as follows:~

30mins @ £15
60mins @ £30

So if you're interested in tasting what SLS can do for your voice,  I do a FREE 30min 'Taster' session :~)
Again, message me on Facebook or Twitter... or email to studio@helenmonks.co.uk

Building your voice so that it works efficiently for you is all about replacing one habit with another habit, and repeating something a certain number of times so that your muscle memory will instinctively know what to do and then take over... so I'm thinking that 'Good' habits are the way forward...

Until next time...

"I am what I do, and I do what I am"

"I am what I do, and I do what I am" is what I thought to myself this morning....

Lately, I've been facing some issues within myself.  I've seen how much I've been holding myself back... having unrealistic self-expectations.. finding it hard to accept and embrace the gradual, natural progression of growth and events...
I've been holding myself back by thinking thoughts such as "ahh, well I can't do that yet, because it's not going to be good enough yet.. " etc.  I've been focussing on where I think I 'should' be instead of accepting where and who I am right now or something like that...
Anyway, that's enough info about that part....

.. making my requests known to God is a big thing in my life, and I think that now I'm starting to be able to accept things some more..

At least for this morning anyway, I saw things in a different light.... not a 'wanna-be' teacher, singer, song-writer... but a practicing teacher, singer & song-writer.  I am already there.... I'm doing it and living it ~ this is who I am and what I do ~  just keep walking, and doing.  I may not be the very best out there but if I can share something of what I do (even if it's just 1 or 2 things) and if it helps someone take some kind of step in their lives, then I feel grateful to be a part of that :-)
